As the weather gets warmer and warmer, it allows us to take more and more diverse outside activities. Since we are so close to the Jinshitan Beach, it is always a good place for us to walk along during our spare time. So I took a walk with my friends this weekend, and we really had a good time.
We started around 2 o'clock at the afternoon, and it took us about 20 minutes to reach the beach. We walked directly to the marriage square where there were many couples taking pictures there. Accomplished with the green grassland, wooden stairs, blue ocean and the sunny weather, new couples seemed to be very happy and content. Each bride was the most beautiful one with their Mr. Right. Also, there were some merchants who owned many pigeon on the open ground. How peaceful it must be for a new couple to take a photo with pigeons around on a coastside. In this way, the merchants use the economic lense of geographic environment in Jinshitan.
Then we rent 4 bicycles along the coast, and started to ride along the shore of Jinshitan Beach. We rided up to the Golden Bridge and then let the gravity drive us down the slope. I felt like I was flying in the sky and it helped release my pressure and stress. When I looked to the side, the wild wind and deep ocean made me think about my life in the future. Well, at this point, I found another lense of geography which was the release tool of emotional people. I believed that if there was any scenery out there, I would not think too much and would not release myself around it.
All in all, I love Dalian and especially the deep, thoughtful, and emotional ocean. It really makes people peaceful when sitting besides it. Furthermore, I am sure I will miss the beach here when I grow up.

Jilin Earthquake
An earthquake which was 4.3 magnitude happened in Jilin Province on March 20. The major cities that were affected are Jilin, Changchun, Liaoyuan, Siping and some parts of Liaoning Province. However, the magnitude of the earthquake was not that strong to cause any damage. The Media recorded that there was no fore-shocks and aftershocks, so it didn't cause any collapses of buildings. In addition, there were several schools that were affected by the earthquake, and the leaders of the schools made a quick and effective decision which was to let all the students leave the classroom and stay in the field together. Thanks to the effort of the leaders, there were no students that were hurted by the earthquake.
After the earthquake took place, seismologists studied this specific case of earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake locates at the boundary of Yitong City and Gongzhuling City which is 43.3N and 124.9°E. The focus is about 19 meters below the epicenter, so it should be a shallow focus. Furthermore, the seismologists found that the focus is not on a plate boundary. Thus, it is not resulted from the pressure of friction between different plates. Therefore, I assume that it may be caused by the over-extraction of mines which could result in some cavities inside the rocks underground. As the cavities accumulate, the rock and soil become so loose that it collapses which could result in an earthquake.
In a word, as human beings, we should recognize some serious problems as we start to encounter more and more natural disasters. We are not living on this Earth along, there are still other parts of the planet, and NATURE is part of it. Protecting the environment is not only good for the nature, but also for all of us.

Natural Environment in Hainan

Hainan is an ideal place for plants to grow, because of its tropical and moderate climate. The average temperature there is 23.6℃- 26.8℃ through one year. There are about 4000 types of plants are growing in Hainan Island which occupies one seventh of the total number of plants in China. Plants are not only contributing to the natural environment in Hainan, but also can be used in medical usages. The amount of medical plants is really amazing, and there are approximately 3500 kinds of them could be used in medicine-making which occupies one third of medical plants in the whole nation. Because of its unique climate in China, Hainan Island has 600 types of plants which are only found in Hainan. Furthermore, it is recorded that there are some plants which come from other region all over the world. However, not all of them are helpful and some of them could destroy the ecosystem in the area and affect others. According to these dangerous planttypes, the Hainan Government had already taken some actions to solve this problem by limiting the growth of those "outsiders".
As the plants provide people a good environment and air condition, we should do them a favour which is to protect and try to prevent species from dying out.

I love Hainan's food
It was just a few days before the Spring Festival Of 2008, I went to Haikou which is the capital city of Hainan Province. Besides the things I mentioned on my last blog, I loved the food there a lot, expecially the fruit.
I spent about 5 days in Haikou, and it seemed like that I had tasted all the delicious dishes in the southern China. There was a street in the center of Haikou City. The street was full of distinctive restaurants of most of famous dishes in the southern China. For example, Dongbei Dishes, Hainan Dishes and Hangzhou Dishes. Among them, there were two of them impressed me a lot. They were used to be Mr. Mao Zedong's favourite dishes, and the restaurant was famous for them. I had them, and it really tasted well.
The other attractive point of Hainan Province for me is the diversity of fruit. As we all know, Hainan Island is located on tropical zone, and the weather allows a great deal types of fruit to grow there. I bought several kind of fruits in the supermarket there, and it was really different from what I had in my hometown. The fruit was just like the weather in Hainan. When you are having them, they make you sort of comfortable.
These are another thoughts I had when I took the trip to Hainan.

My Trip to Haikou
Last winter vacation, I went to Haikou which is the capital city of Hainan Province. Hainan Province is an island and located on the southest part of China. Obviously, it is one of the regions that locate at tropical zone of the globe.
I arrived at Haikou on Jan 15th, 2009. That period of time should be regarded as the coldest time throughout the year there. However, the temperature never dropped below 0℃ anyway. It was around -20℃ at my hometown which is on the northeast of China. How amazing the difference in temperature it was due to the latitude difference!
The thing that impressed me the most was the rain. The rainfalls that I experienced before was heavy rains and other types of intense rainfalls, but it was different there. The kind of rainfall there was drizzle. If you stood under it, you couldn't even feel that it hit your face, but eventually you would get wet. I thought drizzle fell down instead of heavy rains was because the humidity is great, and the ability of cloud to contain water drops decreased, and consequently, the water drops fell in small pieces which were drizzle. Anyway, I loved that kind of drizzle very much, because it was so soft and it comforted me.
Overall, I liked the natural environment there a lot. I wish I could spend my old years there if I am able to.
